Dual Booting CentOS 7 - Windows 7


Menyandingkan Windows 7 dan CentOS 7 dalam satu perangkat (komputer) yang sama ternyata tidak mudah, walaupun kedua OS tersebut sama-sama memiliki angka 7 di belakangnya :)

Bila pada komputer kita sudah terinstal sistem operasi Windows dan berencana akan menginstal CentOS 7 sebagai sistem operasi yang kedua, ternyata caranya agak berbeda dengan tahapan instalasi dual-booting bila menggunakan CentOS 6.

Bagi yang pernah mencoba untuk melakukannya mungkin kita mendapatkan setelah prosedur instalasi selesai ternyata pada menu GRUB2 kita tidak mendapatkan pilihan menu untuk masuk ke sistem operasi Windows kita. Hal tersebut ternyata akibat dari CentOS 7 belum bisa membaca partisi NTFS milik sistem operasi Windows, yang mengakibatkan menu GRUB2 tidak langsung menambahkannya di dalam menu booting komputer kita pada saat proses instalasi CentOS 7.

Untuk memunculkan menu sistem operasi WIndows 7 di dalam menu GRUB2 berikut langkah-langkahnya :
  1. Lakukan instalasi paket yang bernama ntfs-3g, sebagai catatan paket ini bukan merupakan paket standar yang terdapat di repositori CentOS 7. Paket ini bisa diunduh pada repositori EPEL. Paket ini bertujuan agar CentOS dapat membaca partisi NTFS milik Windows.
  2. Untuk memperbaharui menu GRUB2 (agar pilihan booting ke Windows muncul), jalankan perintah berikut di terminal sebagai root :
    grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
  3. Lakukan restart pada komputer, dan sekarang pada menu GRUB2 pilihan booting ke sistem operasi Windows sudah tersedia.
